Invisalign Farmington Hills
Have you considered Invisalign clear braces to straighten your smile and wondered if it’s the right choice for you? At Barone Family Dental, we often recommend Invisalign for patients who want to correct orthodontic issues without the inconvenience of wearing traditional braces.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign was the original clear aligner therapy first introduced in 2001.Since then, millions of smiles have benefitted from this innovative orthodontic treatment that does away with metal brackets and wires.
Instead, Invisalign in Farmington Hills, MI uses a series of clear custom plastic aligner trays worn over the teeth. Each set of aligners are custom-calibrated for each patient to progressively move their teeth closer and closer to their ideal positions.
What Are the Benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign is a fantastic orthodontic treatment on its own and offers numerous benefits compared to metal braces:
- The smooth plastic aligners won’t irritate sensitive mouth tissue as metal brackets and wires can.
- The crystal-clear appearance of Invisalign means the aligners are discreet and virtually unnoticeable when worn.
- Invisalign aligners are removable, and because you can take them out for meals, there are no food restrictions.
- Keeping your teeth clean is easier because you don’t have to try to brush and floss around metal and wire brackets.
- You will have fewer check-in visits with your dentist than traditional braces because there are no wires to adjust.
What Orthodontic Problems Can Invisalign Correct?
Clear aligner therapy is a time-tested adult orthodontic treatment that addresses many of the same problems as metal braces:
- Crooked teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Overbites
- Underbites
- Crossbites
Some instances where traditional braces would be a better choice are severely rotated teeth or difficult bite cases.
How Does Invisalign Treatment Work in Farmington Hills?
If you’re interested in Invisalign, we will schedule an appointment for an evaluation with Dr. Nick Barone at our Farmington Hills, MI, dental office. The purpose is to determine your needs and see if clear aligner therapy is the right treatment approach for you.
Planning Invisalign Treatment
At this appointment, Dr. Nick will evaluate your dental bite and take photos and digital panoramic x-rays of your teeth. He uses an intraoral scanner to take mess-free impressions that are more comfortable than paste impressions and are also more accurate and detailed.
Our Invisalign dentist in Farmington Hills uses the digital impressions to create a 3-D virtual model of your teeth for treatment planning. The model shows how teeth will move during each stage of treatment, and we can even use it to show you how straight your teeth will be after Invisalign treatment is finished!
Wearing Your Clear Aligners
An Invisalign lab prepares several sets of custom aligners, and each set creates certain movements based on your treatment plan. We’ll start you off with your first sets of aligners and instruct you to wear each set for 22 hours a day. The longer you wear your aligners every day, the faster you’ll see progress!
You will wear each set for 1–2 weeks depending on your needs, then switch to the next set of aligners. When you change aligners, you’ll notice they feel very snug at first and gradually get looser—this means your teeth are moving as planned and treatment is progressing!
Throughout treatment, you will continue to wear and switch your aligners until you have worn them all, and we agree the desired results have been achieved. Treatment times vary by patient and depend on the extent of movement required and the total number of aligners needed. Some patients complete treatment in as little as six months, but most fall in the 12–18 month range.
Maintaining Your Straight Smile with a Retainer
After you complete the aligner phase of Invisalign treatment, you will need to wear a retainer to maintain the results. Without retention, your teeth will gradually relapse into their previous crooked positions and, unfortunately, undo all your efforts to achieve results.
